What Christmas Means to Me | Day 3: Our Wonderful Counsellor
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
We live in a world that constantly seeks sound counsel from qualified advisors, and it’s good to have a number of wise human counsellors. A great deal of a counsellor’s time is given to listening. I guess we all have times when we are in need of the counsel of a trusted friend with a listening ear and some solid experience, but there is only one Wonderful Counsellor! Jesus Christ.
He is the sum total of all knowledge—all wisdom, all truth, all counsel . . . He knows everything about everything.
One eighteenth-century Methodist commentator, Joseph Benson, says it so well: “He is wonderful in His person, as God and man . . . He is also wonderful with respect to His birth, life, doctrine, miracles; His love and sufferings; His death, resurrection, and ascension; His humiliation and exaltation; His cross and crown; His grace and glory.”
The Lord is always ready to listen to what we are feeling or experiencing. We never have to make an appointment; He is available to us 24 hours a day. Now that’s very good news!
Jesus, our Wonderful Counsellor.
