Relationship expert and neuropsychotherapist Joanne Wilson says one way to create special memories at Christmas time is by creating meaningful Christmas traditions to enjoy as a couple or family.

Here are the first five of her top ten ideas for creating meaningful Christmas traditions!

1. Decorate together

Don’t just decorate the tree or the home alone. Set a time and date that you can do it together as a family or a couple, pop on some Christmas tunes and enjoy chatting about the significance and history of the decorations as you work together, adding some Christmas spirit to your home.

2. Special food

Is there a special meal or dessert you make that everyone loves? By making it every year at Christmas, you’re creating a meaningful Christmas tradition – and one that everyone is sure to look forward to!

3. Christmas playlist

By creating a Christmas playlist which includes everyone’s favourites, the family Christmas playlist can become a special reminder to everyone of all the memories had, while listening along throughout the Christmas season. And it can be added onto each year!

4. Christmas events

Attending a Church service together each year is a great way to remember the reason for the season, while building a meaningful Christmas tradition.

5. Gift exchange

How does your family give gifts? Personalise the gift exchange moment in a way which makes it special for your family by placing the gifts in a specific location or creating a fun process of giving them out.
