Linda Berrigan, Director of Good Things Australia caught up with Salt 106.5’s Jordana to chat about what we can all do, to help bridge this gap.
Good Things Australia is committed to promoting digital inclusion and helping Australians enhance their digital literacy skills.
And with a focus on connecting communities through technology, Linda works with various initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide.
One in four Australians struggle with technology.
“There’s certainly a lot of people who feel a bit embarrassed that they might not know how to use technology as well as they’d like to or who simply aren’t actually connected at all,” Linda said of one of the major hurdles keeping people from asking for help.
Most of us assume that others are able to use technology but surprisingly, “one in four Australians are actually really struggling,” she said.
“We assume that everybody actually, you know, if you have a mobile phone, then you know how to use the Internet.”
Nevertheless, “”Half of people who’ve responded to this survey say that they’re uncomfortable keeping up with tech.”

Learning how to use technology can be fun, Linda said.
“We’ve got lots of people who are doing fun things, you know, surfing the net right through to how to identify a plant in your garden.”
