The acclaimed singer, songwriter, and record producer, caught up with Steve D to chat about his journey from Beaudesert to Nashville.
Rick’s journey from Beaudesert to becoming a renowned singer, songwriter, and record producer in Nashville is nothing short of inspiring. His story proves that sometimes, the best plans are the ones you don’t make at all.
“I started very young in music and was fortunate to grow up in a little country town where there were a lot of country barn dancers, and that was my apprenticeship into music,” Rick said.
His early love of music paved the way for his organic growth in the industry. Engaging in local barn dances and later performing in clubs and pubs around Queensland catalyzed his migration to Sydney and eventually Nashville.
Rick’s story proves that sometimes, the best plans are the ones you don’t make at all.
This progression wasn’t meticulously planned; “I didn’t even plant it,” he said. “I don’t plan much actually. I don’t plan more than a few months ahead of anything.”
For Rick, it’s always been about the music, rather than fame.
“My primary thing has always been writing and recording my own music, but I do love collaborating with other artists and getting an opportunity to produce records with them in the studio,” he said.
“I really feel like… I’ve come full circle because the title track, ‘Hometown’ is about growing up in a little town of bodes and performing at all the barn dances and my relationship with my family and just how I felt about that little town and the relationship that I still have with it.”
“I love playing solo acoustic shows because it’s a very intimate connection with the audience,” Rick said.
Fans can look forward to an acoustic, intimate, interactive set this Friday,
