Sunny Coast kids have the opportunity to play a free game of NFL Flag – a modified, non-contact version of American Football this Sunday.
Kids aged 9-12 are invited to come on down to the Kawana Sports Precinct on Sunday from 9am.
General Manager of NFL Australia and New Zealand Charlotte Offord chatted with Salt 106.5’s Jordana.
“The children of Australia, they love sport, they can use all the skills that they are already using,” Charlotte told Salt 106.5.
“The growth of NFL Flag in Australia is an important initiative for the league as we look to create future pathways into the sport for girls and boys,” she said.
“What we’re finding is that the children of Australia, they love sport, they can use all the skills that they are already using.”
Involving five players a side, the game is played by boys and girls together, wearing flag belts. Instead of tackling, opposing players pull the player’s flag, bringing the attack to an end.
“For kids that maybe aren’t as sporty, they’re finding that they love the sport because there are other aspects of the sport that they can grasp on to,” Charlotte explained.
“We’ve had a lot of popularity over the last 18 months and we’re really looking to grow it even more so.
“I’m so excited obviously with that the Sunshine Coast is coming on board.
“So, put on a helmet… get kids involved, have a go, have a bit of fun.
“It’s really just there to be a really awesome day of learning something new and trying out some new skills.”
