Did you know, in Australia we have over 25 000 vets who help care for more than 27.7 million household animals across Australia?

It’s no surprise that cats and dogs make up 78% of these.

Of all the things vets do to help keep our furry friends healthy and happy, it’s perhaps their preventative advice that we most appreciate. Anything to keep our furry friends from having a ruff-day (sorry, couldn’t help myself) and increase longevity.

Dr Bronwen Slack, ANZ Chief Health Officer at Royal Canin says that vets are pretty easy to please.

“This World Vet Day, the biggest thanks you can give your vet is letting them know how your pet is going,” said Dr Bronwen Slack.

“This World Vet Day, the biggest thanks you can give your vet is letting them know how your pet is going,” she said.

“We love to see our patients recovered and living their best lives.

“That’s why we do what we do.”

Most of us consider our pets as part of the family, which is why preventative care, advice and treatment matters so much to us. Beyond providing routine vaccinations, treatments and life-saving procedures, vets understand the importance of giving pet owners the most valuable thing there is – time with their pet.

Among the most common reasons Aussies are visiting the vet are routine check-ups, vaccinations, ear and eye issues, skin conditions, de-sexing and dentistry – as well as seeking diet advice.

It seems we are committed to keeping our animals happy. Other ideas to help keep your pet happy include the use of interactive toys, puzzle games, regular tooth brushing and of course, a high quality, balanced diet. Mixing up their environment can also help, so consider visiting a new dog park or taking them with you when you go out for the day.

And don’t forget to say ‘thank you’ to a vet today!
