We can be here for the long haul that sees people move from isolation and desperation to true belonging in a community of care.
Our scars don’t disqualify us but are sometimes the very things that qualify us. Where we are broken is the place we are also blessed.
The desert is the place where the ‘wild beasts’ lie in wait. We would prefer to stay busy and on the move so they don't corner us.
As we are loved, so we love others. We need to know deep down that we are loved by God and we need to accept God’s acceptance of us.

Jesus was born at a time in history, in a city, like we live in. He is not a distant figure, but so close to our situation.
God, at the first Christmas, made His home amidst the human race and entered into the mess and muck and mystery of life on earth.
Like lots of Christmas imagery today, it can conceal as much truth as it reveals.
