BreastScreen Queensland Mobile Service Maleny
BreastScreen Queensland provides free breast cancer screening for women 40 years and over and will be on location at Maleny Hospital in Bean Street from now until Wednesday the 18th of May. Screening takes about 20-30 minutes and is available between 7.45am and 3pm. You don’t need a doctor’s referral but you need to make an appointment by phoning 13 20 50 or visiting breastscreen.qld.gov.au.
Women 50 – 74 are encouraged to have a breast screen every two years as the best way to find breast cancer early. It could save your life.

South African Film Festival
The South African Film Festival brings the very best of contemporary South African film to Australian and New Zealand audiences in cinema and online. This Film Festival gives audiences a unique insight into the diversity of South Africa; its creative forces, the strength of its people, its challenges and the richness of its cultures and languages. The SAFF runs until the 24th of May both in cinemas and online.
All proceeds raised through ticket sales to the South African Film Festival go to supporting the vital work of Education without Borders, a not-for-profit that is changing the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk youth in South Africa’s Western Cape.

Benevolent Bear Auction is Back
Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy will be once again auctioning off a Limited Collection of six different handcrafted bears to raise funds to assist people with Parkinson’s Disease. Lorraine of Fig Tree Hollow started making bears under the guidance of Patti, a world-recognised Teddy Bear Designer. Lorraine’s early career as a tailoress put her in very good stead to learning the art of bear making. With her artistic flair and attention to detail, Lorraine has been recognised by her peers as a talented bespoke bear maker. Lorraine was delighted to put her talents to a good cause and kindly offered to create another Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy Limited Collection of six different handcrafted bears, following the resounding success of the 2020 and 2021 auctions.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Yandina
The Yandina Baptist Church is excited to be hosting a scrumptious morning tea at ‘Connections’ in Yandina on Thursday the 19th of May as a part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea starting at 9.30am. There will be two guest speakers, prizes, a scrumptious morning tea and a whole lot of fun all to raise funds for cancer research.

Glasshouse Christian College Open Day
Glasshouse Christian College Open Day is a fun-filled event for the whole family and will be held on Saturday the 21st of May from 10am till 2pm at the school in Roberts Road, Beerwah.
Visitors will enjoy free activities like train rides around campus, rock climbing, an animal nursery and a jumping castle. There will also be campus tours; dance, drama and music performances; science shows and interactive displays; a chance to meet the principal and teachers; food trucks; coffee vans; and don’t miss out on a visit to the College Farm. Soul Song Choir Performance
You bring your coffee, we’ll bring the tunes and help you destress from election fever on Saturday the 21st of May starting at 11am. Spend a relaxing hour in the stunning Montville Village Hall listening to the uplifting and inspiring pop, soul and gospel repertoire of Soul Song Choir – Brisbane’s most passionate and joyful community choir. Tickets are $5 on the day at the door.
There will also be a singing workshop that afternoon in Nambour and a formal performance on Saturday night in Mountain View so check out all the options for hearing and singing with the Soul Song Choir.

Soulful Singing Workshop Nambour
Join the Soul Song Brisbane crew for an informal singing workshop at the CWA Hall in Short Street Nambour on Saturday the 21st of May starting at 2pm. No experience or ability is required and anyone over 13 is welcome. You’ll learn three complete songs and even perform them at the end, and don’t worry they’ll be easy pop, soul and gospel arrangements guaranteed to leave feeling energised and uplifted.
At the end of the workshop, there’ll be a short pop-up performance in Nambour City Square to share the songs you’ve just learned so feel free to invite friends and family down for 4.15pm to check out your big moment! JC Fest Burnside
JC Fest is a one-day music, action sports and gospel festival to be held on Saturday the 21st of May from 2pm to 5pm on the Field near Flametree Baptist Church in Coes Creek Rd Burnside.
The day will showcase local youth talent and also performances from the Island breeze dance team, Team X-tream and finally some of Australia’s best BMX and FMX riders. The day is geared toward youth but parents and adults are still invited.
It’s a great opportunity to bring friends and family to have fun and also hear about Jesus! This is a totally free event too.

Locals Launch Music Concert Belli
Come for a night out with great local music and food at the Belli Community Hall on Saturday the 21st of May at 5.30pm. Continuing to support local artists, Belli Hall is proud to support North & Elsewhere, a sunny coast duo as well as Lineage, a Kenilworth Father and Daughter duo, and the Blue Grass guys from Yandina.

A Night of Pop, Jazz and Broadway
Settle in for a stunning night on the water while you enjoy the soulful sounds of Brisbane-based Soul Song Choir and Sound Avenue vocal group on Saturday the 21st of May at The Lakehouse, in Freshwater Street Mountain View starting at 7.30pm.
Soul Song is a lively and passionate community choir, singing pop, soul and gospel repertoire that’s designed to inspire and energise their audiences. Sound Avenue is a mixed voice vocal collective that is 100% not a choir, despite often looking and sounding just like one! They prefer to identify as a contemporary vocal ensemble, with various sizes of performance groups singing a mix of jazz, pop and gospel both with and without musical accompaniment.

Let’s get ready to Rummage Nambour. Loads of lovely stall holders are all booked in for the suitcase rummage on Sunday the 22nd of May from 9am till 1pm at the new Nambour Tram Terminal, 28 Mill Street Nambour. There’ll be handmade, vintage & all manner of pre-loved goods available and a Live DJ to keep you grooving while you rummage and a sausage sizzle to keep you fed.

Free Breast Cancer Screening Kilcoy
BreastScreen Queensland is bringing it’s free mobile breast screening service to the Kilcoy Hospital in Brown Street from Monday the 23rd to Friday the 27th of May 2022. This service is free to women aged 40 and over. Women aged 50 to 74 are particularly encouraged to have a breast screen as research shows regular screening is most beneficial for women in this age group. Appointments take less than thirty minutes and a doctor’s referral is not required. Call 13 20 50 or visit the BreastScreen Website to make an appointment for the Kilcoy mobile service or the permanent screening service in Caboolture. Early detection could save your life.

The Sunshine Coast Dementia Alliance is thrilled to hold its first ‘Become a Dementia Friend’ workshop on Wednesday the 25th of May at the Buderim Bowls Club in Elizabeth Street starting at 10.30am.
A Dementia Friend is simply someone who would like to make a positive difference to people living with dementia. By increasing your awareness of dementia, your small, everyday actions can support people impacted by dementia to feel included and connected with the local community. Live Music Fundraising Night Obi Obi
A live music night will be held at Obi Obi Hall on Saturday the 28th of May with doors opening at 4pm. The event will have local artists, Kelly Cork, Paul Richardson and Shakey Razor and more, plus a bonfire, sausage sizzle, drinks and raffles. This is a ticketed event due to number limitations at Obi Obi Hall. Tickets are $20 General Admission and $15 Concession and are available through Trybooking.com
This fundraising event is to support local resident Rose to purchase a new accessible van. Rose has cerebral palsy and is unable to work. To raise funds she has a crowdfunding page and is organising several fundraising events with the help of her support workers, her family and the amazing Sunshine Coast community. Rose has already managed to raise $30,000 and is looking to raise another $15,000 to purchase a specialised vehicle.

Comedy for a Cause Maroochydore
Maroochydore State High School P&C are hosting its inaugural Comedy for a Cause fundraising event on Saturday May 28th at the school. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7:30pm with three Comedians from the Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals. There will be a Bar, Cafe and Snack Shop available for drinks and nibbles as well as raffle tickets on the night.
Funds raised will go to help support the student Social and Developmental programs run at the school as well as repairs and upgrades to the school Canteen.

Wash My Soul in the River’s Flow Film Night
Sunshine Coast Council invites you to go behind the scenes of the legendary 2004 concert Kura Tungar – Songs from the River. This special screening will be shown at the Strand Cinema in Caloundra at 7pm on Monday the 30th of May as a part of the Sunshine Coast Film Festival.
Through conversation, music and stunning imagery the documentary explores the lives and love story of First Nations singer-songwriters Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter. This event is proudly supported by the Cultural Heritage Levy as part of National Reconciliation Week. The theme for 2022 National Reconciliation Week is Be Brave. Make Change.

Pop-Up Garage Sale Nambour
An amazing variety of donated things, including a kitchen sink, will be available at the Pop-Up Garage Sale at Sanctuary Park Church of Christ, in National Park Rd Nambour. The garage sale will be held over three days, from Thursday the 2nd of June to Saturday the 4th of June from 8.30am to 1.30pm daily.
Funds raised will support community disaster relief, prompted by the recent flooding events. Refreshments will be available through the Drop-In & Op Shop which will support the fundraising. Browsers are most welcome.

The Next Harvest Swap will be held on Sunday the 12th of June from 10am-12noon at a Permaculture Garden in Mountain View Road Pinbarren. Plus your guides will take you on a tour of the lush permaculture garden, highlighting a few fascinating permaculture principles along the way.
Bring your excess homegrown produce such as fruits, veggies, herbs, seedlings, seeds, eggs, honey, worm juice, compost as well as your homemade goods like preserves, baked goods, handmade items, etc. to swap. Bring a little, a lot, or simply a desire to share some like-minded company. And as always please share the love. This is a money-free initiative based on community and connection. Soup n Soul Art Exhibition & Market
Come along to the Sunshine Coast Art Group’s annual Soup & Soul Art exhibition and market on Saturday the 9th of July at the Art Group Rooms in William Parker Place, Buderim from 9am till 2pm.
Buy a handmade soup bowl, lovingly crafted by members of the pottery group, fill it with scrumptious soup of your choice, add crusty bread and you keep it all for just $15!
While you’re there, browse through the unique, locally-made paintings, pottery, and sewing and grab a bargain. There will be ‘How To’ demonstrations throughout the day, live music to soothe the soul from super cool band ‘Live Junction’, plenty of refreshments, a coffee van & homemade treats. Get a ticket or two in the raffle & lucky door prize and bring the kids as there’ll be activities for them too.
