Great Gympie Duck Race

NB: With the Mary River catchment areas receiving so much rain over the past week and more possibly forecast, this means the river is quite high and unsafe to get into the water for our Duck Wranglers with debris and fast-flowing water so the Great Gympie Duck Race has been moved to Saturday the 13th of November. Same time same place.

SU Queensland invites you to participate in The Great Gympie Duck Race on Saturday the 13th of November from 11am to 1pm at the Mary River Weir with access via the Kidd Bridge.

There will be up to 2,000 rubber ducks, in all the colours of the rainbow, racing to the finish line to raise money for chaplaincy and local schools. Ducks are available for purchase for only $5. You can choose from 11 local schools, which will receive half of the ticket cost. Awesome prizes for the first three ducks over the finish line have been donated by caring local businesses. There’ll be plenty of food stalls, games and entertainment from local performers to make it a fun-filled day for the whole family!

Monthly Sunday Social Paddle

The Kindness Collective hosts a relaxed Sunday morning social paddle on the Maroochy River each month and you’re invited to join them. You can bring your own board or paddle craft or there are also SUP boards available to hire nearby.

They meet at the pier at Cotton Tree Park at 8am for a 90-minute paddle wherever the conditions best allow. Sometimes that’s a paddle up through the mangroves to Goat Island, or maybe upstream to Sunshine Plaza, or perhaps even Pincushion Island. This social paddle is more than just exercise, it’s an opportunity for community connection so bring the family or just come yourself and make some new friends.

The next social paddle morning will be from 8am on:-

  • Sunday November 14th

For further details please visit the Facebook Event Page.

Please note that this event is subject to weather conditions, Covid Restrictions and the date may either change or be cancelled, so please keep an eye on their Facebook Page for updates and for the signup link before the event if you need to hire a board.
