Loose Ends Ladies Craft Meetup

Join the ladies from the Coolum Women’s Shed twice a month to work on your craft projects. This meetup is a chance for you to make time for yourself away from work and home, and focus on your creative project in the company of other sheddies. Or maybe you just need to use the sewing machine or to sew on a button? Save your projects and make them fun and social at the shed which is held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 11am till 1pm at the Coolum Men’s Shed Community Centre at 26 Research Street, Coolum. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

Clean Up for the Hatchlings

Clean-up for the Hatchlings will be held on Saturday the 29th of January at various locations from Coolum to Caloundra between 6am – 7:30am before the sun gets too hot. Following the beach clean-ups, volunteers will be welcomed to weigh and sort debris, listen to guest speakers, enjoy a free BBQ at 9 different locations along the coast.

BBQs will be hosted at the following locations; Coolum, Marcoola, Cotton Tree Park, Coopers Lookout Park Kawana, John Hotton Park Warana, Bokarina, Currimundi Lake, and Moffat Beach. Register HERE to attend one of the 18 sites for the beach clean-up and remember to check if your site is one of the 9 Thank you BBQ sites, if not check which BBQ site is allocated to your beach clean-up.

Bring along a hat and sun-safe clothes, closed in footwear and water. We’re going for a Plastic Free event (especially single-use plastics) so please bring reusable items wherever possible (eg. Water bottle, coffee cup, and gloves). We will have reusable gloves available and clean-up bags for your use at each location.

Clean up for the Hatchlings is a free event run by Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with ReefCheck Australia, Sea Shepherd, and Sea Life Sunshine Coast, inspiring the whole community to come together to help clean up Sunshine Coast beaches in preparation for the hatchling turtles.

February Harvest SWAP Sunshine Coast

Our first Harvest Swap of 2022 will be held at the wonderful Yandina Community Gardens on Sunday the 13th of February starting at 10am, featuring a talk by author and educator Leonie Shanahan, on how to prepare for food shortages by growing an abundant garden today.

Bring your excess homegrown produce such as fruits, veggies, herbs, seedlings, seeds, eggs, honey, worm juice, compost as well as your homemade goods like preserves, baked goods, handmade items, etc. to swap. Bring a little, a lot, or simply a desire to share some like-minded company. And as always please share the love. This is a money-free initiative based on community and connection. Tell your friends, your family, that stranger with the veggie garden and fruit trees.

Mapleton Country Markets

The first Mapleton Country Markets for 2022 will be held on Saturday 26th of February from 8am to 12noon at the Mapleton Hall 31 Obi Obi Rd. Stall holders are welcome to apply and proceeds go to the upkeep of the hall.

Come and enjoy the very popular waffles with strawberries or mulberries (gluten-free available too). There is also barista coffee, bushfood plants, jams and chutneys, bunya nut pesto, honey, stacks of jewellery stalls, timber, plants, gourmet brownies, clothing, books, fruit and veges (including organic veges), handcrafted tea towels and potholders, cards, and oh so much to see inside and outside the hall.

Sunny Coast Baby and Kids Markets are the largest indoor baby and kids markets on the coast and have been in operation for over 10 years, selling pre-loved, new and beautiful handmade items for the under 8’s.  These markets are a great way to shop for affordable baby and children’s pre-loved clothing, shoes, toys, puzzles, cots, prams, high chairs, baby baths, swings, and more.  They always have FREE bounty bags and FREE entertainment for the kids plus a hot food and coffee van.  No ATM on-site, so they recommend bringing along cash on the day.

2022 Surfing Dog Championship

The 2022 VetShopAustralia Surfing Dog Championships are on again! The dogs are back on board at 2:30pm, Saturday 5 March 2022. Get down early to First Point, Noosa Main Beach to meet the dogs and grab some goodies.

Back in 2012, the first-ever Surfing Dogs Championship started out as a playful workshop in the still waters of Noosa Dog Beach. Fast-forward to ten years later and without a doubt the most popular event at the Noosa Festival of Surfing, the Surfing Dog Championships continues to draw an audience well into the 1000’s. Our exceptionally talented hydro-hounds and their masters shred the waves of First Point, Noosa and it is a sight not to be missed!

Kenilworth Transport Service

If you need to travel to Nambour, Eumundi, Yandina, Maleny, or the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, why not use the Kenilworth Transport Service to help you out? Cost is $8 return for a 4-5 Hour trip with collection at the Information Centre, or your home if it’s on the way. Bookings to be made by 2pm the day before travel at the Information Centre, Kenilworth. Trip days are as follows: Tuesday; Wednesday; Thursday. Out of Schedule trips possible with notice and driver availability. Times and drop off points are negotiable, and you’ll need to be registered before using the service.

To access the Kenilworth Community Transport Service you need to be a resident of Kenilworth, Belli Park, Cambroon, Conondale, Coolabine, Eerwah Vale, Gheerulla, Kidaman Creek or Obi Obi (or a guest of a registered resident).

Please have the following information handy when you call to make a booking:

  • date of your trip
  • your pick-up address (if not meeting at the Kenilworth Post Office)
  • approximate time you will be ready to return.

Additional trips can be organised to meet the needs of the community by arrangement with the sub-committee, subject to driver availability and passenger demand. Please provide one week’s notice where possible.

The Kenilworth Community Transport Service is run by volunteers, under the leadership of a Sub-Committee of the Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce, who hold the Operator Accreditation for the service with the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Council supplies a fully insured 7-seater passenger vehicle and an allocation (of up to $2,000 to cover expenses) for the community to provide the service with volunteer drivers.

Your old mobile phone could Save a Life! Victims of domestic violence desperately need your old phone right now. Often when victims of domestic violence are considering escape, the perpetrator will confiscate their mobile phone or destroy it when they question who their partner has been talking to or texting. Likewise many who do move into safe houses, arrive with nothing but the shirt on their back.

DV Safe Phone has been established to receive, test, and GIVE your old phone to those who need it the most so they can have access to communication when they most desperately need it. AJ’s Men’s Meet-Ups

AJ’s are weekly meet-ups around the world creating comfortable environments in pubs and cafes for men to make friends and talk life over a beer or coffee.

There are four gatherings held each week here on the Sunshine Coast including:-

9am every Tuesday at Nanna McGinn’s Cafe, Kenilworth

12 noon every Wednesday at Taps Pub Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba

6.30pm every Wednesday at Brightwater Tavern 5 Freshwater St, Mountain Creek

The Palmwoods meeting will be moving to Thursday mornings at a venue to be announced soon.

Wild Kids Club

Wild Kids is a kids club for primary school children aged 8 to 12 years old (grades 3 to 6). It’s held every Friday afternoon of the school term at The Gathering, at 33 Latcham Drive Caloundra between 4.30 and 6.30pm. The play games, do crafts, sing songs and enjoy a bite to eat too.
